India, Maldives sign treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters

The treaty aims to enhance effectiveness of both the countries in investigation and prosecution of crime, through cooperation and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters

Current affairs: India and Maldives on Tuesday signed a treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters as External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid discussed ongoing cooperation in various fields and ways to further strengthen the bilateral ties.

Jaishankar, who is in the Maldives to attend the 4th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference (IOC), met Shahid at Paradise Island Resort. This is his first visit to the country since assuming the office in May.
